CLASSIC STORIES MYSTERY and ADVENTURE Frankenstein Mary Shelley Frankenstein lived happily as a child in Geneva in Switzerland. His parents took a young girl, Elizabeth, into their home. Frankenstein was always interested in science. So when he was seventeen, his father sent him to University of Ingoldstadt. On his first day at school, Mr. Wallmann, his new teacher, said: “If you want to become a real scientist, you must learn all the science. But I want to teach you chemistry” Frankenstein became a good student. He worked on experiments all the time and read a lot of books. He worked hard for two years. Frankenstein wanted to discover where life came from. But first he had the unterstand death, so he studied the dead bodies. He always worked. The summer months passed and autumn came. His health wasn’t good. One night, he used his tools to create life inside body. The yellow eyes of the body opened. It breathed and moved its arms and legs. Success! The body was moving. After years of work, a human was born to life. The man was terribly ugly. He had black hair and white teeth but his skin was yellow and dry. His eyes were very plate. He was a monster. Frankenstein looked at the ugly monster and he was frightened. He went to his bed. But when he fell asleep, he had wild dreams. He thought, he saw Elizabeth. She was walking in Ingoldstadt . When he kissed her, her mouth became cold. It was like the kiss of death. The Count of Monte Cristo Alexandre Dumas Edmond Dantes is a young sailor. His enemies say he wants to help Napoleon return to France. So he is put in prison .After many years there, he meets Faria. Before his death, Faria tells him about a treasure on the Island of Monte Cristo. But nobody has ever escaped from this prison. Dantes saw the body of Faria lay inside a bag of cloth. A thought came to him . “ Only dead people leave this prison. I can take the place of dead . “ Dantes took the body from the bag. He laid the body on his bed and pulled the bedclothes over its head . Dantes got inside the bag. After a few hours , he heard footsteps outside . He saw two person . The men put the body on the piece wood. Then they moved. The men tied the weight around Dantes feet. Then the men lifted Dantes up and they walked. Finally they threw Dantes into the air. He fell into the cold water. A heavy weight pulled him down . This is the grave of Chateau d’If – the sea . The Thirty – nine Steps John Buchan In 1914, Richard Hannay has returned to England from Africa. An American , Scudder , has discovered a German plan to kill an important Greek politician. He said that to Richard. Richard knows that Scudder is in danger. So Scudder moves into his flat. But one evening when Hannay comes home, he saw Scudder lying on his back with a knife through his heart. His enemies killed him because he knew their plans. “They’ll kill me next. They know that he was staying in my flat. They’ll guess that he told me their plans.” Richard thought. He could go to the police, but the police could think that he killed Scudder. Hannay formed a plan. He planed to go away for a weeks, then return to London and go to the police. Hannay decided to go to Scotland. He knew that there was a train to Scotland in the morning. But how could he get out of the flat? Scudder’s enemies were probably outside the building. Suddenly he had a great idea. He decided to realize his plan tomorrow morning. Hannay woke in the morning and found Scudder’s secret book. Then the milkman came. Richard wanted to borrow his clothes. The milkman agreed and Hannay put on the his clothes.
